Fourth Trimester Care
Physician led postpartum care for mom and baby in the comfort of your home
Whether it’s your first baby or your fourth, the first few weeks at home can be both joyful and more than a little overwhelming.
Our Fourth Trimester Care Program was created to provide the support for moms and babies that is lacking from routine postpartum and newborn care.
As a board certified family medicine physician with fellowship experience in obstetrics, Dr. Kuster is uniquely positioned to care for both mom and baby in the all important fourth trimester period. Because leaving the house for doctors’ appointments in those early days can feel like a Herculean task, all of our packages include a home visit 48-72 hours after delivery or hospital discharge, leaving you more time for bonding, recovery, and sleep.

Why the fourth trimester matters
The Gap in Modern Maternity Care
Most people assume that the "danger zone" ends once the baby is safely delivered. However, clinical data shows a different reality: The postpartum period is the most critical window for a mother's health.
In the United States, over half of all pregnancy-related complications and deaths occur after the day of delivery.
The First Week: This is the highest-risk period for life-threatening issues like hemorrhage, infection, and high blood pressure (preeclampsia).
Most traditional OB-GYN models don't see a mother until 6 weeks postpartum. This leaves a "care gap" during the exact weeks when medical intervention is most effective.
Honoring the transition to motherhood
At Abide Health, we don't wait for the 6-week mark. We believe the Fourth Trimester requires active clinical monitoring to ensure both mom and baby are thriving, not just surviving.
Immediate Clinical Eyes: Our home visits in the first days and weeks are designed to catch "red flag" symptoms before they become emergencies.
Maternal Mental Health: 1 in 5 postpartum deaths are related to mental health. We include specialized screenings and treatment paths as a standard of care, not an afterthought.
Integrated Wellness: We move beyond the standard '6-week clearance' to provide real-time medical oversight when risks are highest and support is needed most. This includes everything from troubleshooting breastfeeding issues to optimizing long term pelvic health and navigating the complexities of welcoming a small human into your family.
“Dr. Kuster was an incredible support during pregnancy and delivery of our daughter last year. She thoughtfully considered all of our questions, respected our wishes, and supported us throughout the whole process.”
